Memory Lane: Motown Revue and 70s Soul Revisited

Memory Lane: Motown Revue and 70s Soul Revisited In-Person

Jeff Sherer will be repeating this presentation which took place in early November, for those people that missed it. Register online so that we know how many chairs to set up.

During this presentation we will watch videos and listen to music as we discuss the evolution of African American music initiated by Berry Gordy and Ahmet Ertegun (Atlantic Records) from the 1960s-70s. All are welcome.

Impact on American Institutions and Conventions

We'll examine how the music evolved and began to address the social unrest and reality within the Black community and America. We'll listen to songs like Cloud Nine, Love Child and Edwin Strarr's WAR.  Over the course of the presentation, we'll see the introduction of soul music and the evolution of the music from street corner doo wop to sex, drugs, family, ghetto, and social revolution.  In this session, we'll be listening to artists such as The Stylistics, Blue Magic, Sly and the Family Stone, The impressions, OJays, Pointer Sisters, Curtis Mayfiield-SuperFly, Isaac Hayes, Teddy Pendergras, Wilson Pickett, Michael Jackson and James Brown.
